The U.S. Department of Education’s new regulations for teacher preparation programs ask states and organizations that prepare teachers to provide much more data about graduates’ competence, their persistence in the teacher workforce, and their impact on student learning.

The Educator Preparation Program is designed for individuals who possess at least a bachelor’s degree and are interested in becoming a certified teacher in the state of Texas. Our quality program provides a rigorous, fast-paced, and effective preparation for the classroom.

Figure 2 shows the four main entities involved in developing policies and implementing programs geared toward teacher preparation. Figure 2. Teacher Preparation Programs across multiple colleges at BYU-Idaho are supported by a common vision for preparing teachers in becoming disciples of Jesus Christ, the master teacher. Each program provides deep knowledge of the content needed for teaching in the chosen discipline with support from a common teacher preparation core. We find that (a) teachers from certain TPPs have significantly different evaluation ratings than graduates of other programs; (b) it is important to adjust for elements of school context when analyzing the evaluation ratings of program graduates; (c) evaluation ratings are a function of preparation quality, not just selection into programs; and (d) evaluation ratings provide evidence on the Graduate programs are currently accredited by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE), but will be reviewed for reaccreditation in 2021 by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator for Preparation (CAEP).
